have an attic full of boxes of old badges, flyers and other clubbing memorabilia
but their newly opened ‘Memorabilia!’ exhibition clearly proves

first anniversary
For
the past year the Museum has hosted a cluster of exhibitions, screenings,
workshops and talks by renowned authors, film makers, photographers and artists
and we now present our anniversary exhibition Memorabilia!
An
exhibition of nightclub flyers, pin and sewn badges, style publications, cut n
paste zines,
music
graphics, illustrations, reportage photography and video from the museum's
archival collection.
Memorabilia!
Exhibition is a look behind the world of clubs and sub cultures and highlights
the importance of identity, memory, history and community.
This
exhibition champions the cultural significance of nightclubs and street style
and the role they have played in shaping modern culture.
The
artefacts on exhibition collected during the past thirty years from scenes
including Northern Soul, Hip Hop, Rare Groove, House and Rave, provide insights
on the subterranean world of nightclubs and the attitudes, hairstyles, clothing
and interests that have come to define nightclubbing and sub cultures.
The
Memorabilia! Exhibition is a multi media experience reflecting the ever
shifting landscape of nightlife and sub cultures at home and abroad.

runs from 13th August - 12th September 2011
